£2,300 Funding To Kick Start Youth Project In Berwick

Newcastle United Foundation has been awarded £2,300 from not-for-profit housing provider Four Housing’s Community Development Fund to run a number of football and lifestyle sessions in Berwick.

The Community Development Fund is awarded to groups or projects that benefit both Four Housing tenants and the local community.

The Foundation will use the funding to run its ‘Kicks’ project this month at the Berwick Swan Centre for Leisure, which will see up to 50 local young people take part in a mix of physical and classroom activities, aimed at helping them to achieve their goals through football. The classroom activities include dealing with healthy lifestyle issues and raising awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and violence.

Kate Bradley, Head of theNewcastle United Foundation, said: “We rely on grants and donations to reach into local communities, so we are very grateful for Four Housing’s Community Development Fund award. The funding will be used to deliver invaluable developmental and educational sessions, aimed at inspiring young people in the Berwick area and helping them to achieve their personal goals.”

Paul Tanney, Chief Executive at Four Housing said: “The Community Development Fund provides vital funding for projects that support the local community and we are delighted that the ‘Kicks’ project will be engaging with young people in Berwick. The fund aims to support projects and groups that encourage community participation and improve the well being and quality of life of community members.”

The programme will run from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 October and is open to anyone aged 12-18.  For more details please contact Laura.Wilson@nufc.co.uk or telephone 0844 372 1892 extension 8451.
